Through growing and sharing varieties of fruits, vegetables, and grains, the Living Memory Lab investigates how the plants which provide our food simultaneously influence our understanding of history. Any questions, concerns, or ideas can be sent to Dr. Mark Rhodes who brings his expertise as a geographer focused on memory to the study of these unique human-environment interactions. Summer 2024 focuses on 6 plants commemorating 5 women: Alice Roosevelt tomato, Lady Di runner bean, Lady Godiva pumpkin, Jenny Lind melon, and Evita strawberry and Eva Perón tomatoes. This follows work in summer 2021 on the Paul Robeson tomato, Stephen Biko bean, and the Red Cloud potato. As we learn more, we will expand our greenhouse, garden, collection, and research.
